We are currently optimistic, that the global covid-19 pandemic will be resolved by summer 2022. We thus hope to welcome you all to Munich in person. Until then we will closely monitor the situation and keep you informed of any changing plans.

WCM 2022 in Munich, Germany

The World Congress of Malacology in 2022 will be hosted by the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München (Faculties of Biology and Medicine, Campus Martinsried) during the first week of August, 2022 in the southwest of Munich.

WCM 2022 follows its direct predecessors in Asilomar (California 2019), Penang (Malaysia 2016), and at the Azores (Portugal 2013), and many others since 1962, and we will celebrate its 60th birthday. The congress will be organized on behalf of UNITAS Malacologica by a team from LMU, Staatliche Naturwissenschaftliche Sammlungen Bayerns, SNSB, and the Technische Universität München, being headed by the president of UNITAS Malacologica, Gerhard Haszprunar.

The theme of WCM 2022 is all aspects of diversity, function, ecology, evolution, and conservation of extant and fossil Mollusca.
Special topics of the congress include evolutionary and developmental aspects, taxonomy, phylogeny, paleontology, genomics, functional morphology, as well as all methodological innovations concerning malacological aspects.

The motto of WCM 2022 is “Meeting of Generations”.

Explicitly we want to welcome the next generation of malacologist from all over the globe, starting from the bachelor level up to the postdoc phase of their career. They should get contact and should exchange ideas and experiences with the - not less welcome - already established scientists of the various fields of malacology from all countries and continents.
Blick über München bis zu den BergenThe Munich meeting will continue the successful tradition of the past WCM congresses and we invite everyone with an interest in molluscan animals to join WCM 2022 in Munich and to present and discuss your work. Note also, that the week afterwards (Aug 8-12, 2022), the International Congress of Invertebrate Morphology (ICIM-5) will take place in Vienna, Austria, and you will spend only 4 hours by train to reach Vienna from Munich, making even a long travelling to Europe worthwhile. Anyway, we, the organizers of WCM2022, will wholeheartedly welcome you to Munich. Meet your colleagues in the "largest village on earth", in Bavaria, Germany.
